The native people of Dooars or Duars generally have Mongoloid features and composed of number of tribes like the Bodo, Rava, Mech, Toto etc. Dooars initially was under the erstwhile Coch Kingdom. So number of Rajbanshis and Kamtapuri people have been living in Dooars for ages. As Dooars is the gateway to Bhutan and proximity of Nepal Dooars is also a home for Nepalese and Bhutanese people.
The British Government started developing tea industry in Dooars in 1870. So they imported labours from Chota Nagpur, Santhal Parganas and Nepal. So the Oraons, Mundas, Kharia, Mahali, Lohara and the Chik-Baraik are also some other tribals who have made Dooars their home.
Apart from the above tribal communities now Bengalis, Beharis, Marwaris are also contributing to the population mass in Dooars.
